Energy Codes impacting Track Lighting
ASHRAE/IESNA 90.1-2001
The wattage of line-voltage lighting track and plug-in busway that allow the addition and/or relocation of luminaires without altering the wiring of the system shall be the specified wattage of the luminaires included in the system with a minimum of 30 W/lin ft."
IECC 2002
"Line-voltage lighting track and plug-in busway. The wattage shall be the greater of the wattage of the luminaires determined in accordance with Sections 805.5.1.1 through 805.5.1.3 or 30 W/linear foot (98W/lin m)."
California Title 24-2005
"The wattage of line-voltage lighting track and plug-in busway which allows the addition or relocation of luminaires without altering the wiring of the system shall be the volt-ampere rating of the branch circuit feeding the luminaires, or an integral current limiter controlling the luminaries, or the higher of the maximum relamping rated wattage of all the luminaries included in the system listed on the permanent factory-installed label, as specified by UL 1574, or 45 Watts per linear foot."
Example Calculation (Title 24)
Actual Load = 5 fixtures x 44W* = 220W
Default Watts = 16 ft x 45W/ft = 720W

Install a 2.5A/300W PowerTrip Module

Only 80W (300-220) of lighting potential
is forfeited vs 500W (720-220) without.
*Total input watts of 39W MH ballast
16 feet of Basic Track
3 - 39W MH Wall Washers
2 - 39W MH Accents

Lightolier only warrants that PowerTrip Breaker Modules will perform as rated. Local authorities have jurisdiction
over code interpretation and enforcement. Local and municipal codes may vary and/or change without notice.
