Solid-State Lighting must be Designed as a System
Products must not be evaluated based on the rated performance of the individual LEDs or other components,
as each will function differently in various operating environments. Lightolier's system approach involves
the concurrent design of power conversion, LED circuits, thermal management and optics. This guarantees
that all components will deliver optimum performance and long life.
Power Supply
Separated from the light engine to minimize heat conduction, the Philips-proprietary power supply rapidly
and accurately controls power output to the light engine. The result is a 90% efficient power conversion
system, optimized to maximize the effectiveness of the Calculite luminaire.
Light Engine
Thermal management is critical to every aspect of an LED system. Light output, life and color stability are
all directly related to operating temperature. By designing the light engine as a fully enclosed, modular
system, maximum heat dissipation is ensured and the potential for field contamination has been eliminated.
