Lightolier introduces Calculite® Matrix Square and Rectangular Aperture Recessed Downlights.
FALL RIVER, MASS. (May 22, 2002)— Calculite Matrix, Lightolier's new line of square and rectangular aperture recessed downlights, offers the ultimate combination of style and performance. These specification-grade luminaires utilize energy efficient, compact fluorescent lamps up to 57 watts.

Rectangular and square apertures complement a wide variety of architectural forms, suspended ceiling systems and other lighting products. Matrix offers a palette of symmetrical elements that can be combined in various patterns or arrays to achieve functional illumination and an architecturally integrated ceiling plan.

The new products are available in three different aperture configurations. The 4 1/2" square luminaires offer an extremely small aperture with the performance of a 26W or 32W triple tube lamp. The 4 1/2" by 9" rectangular downlights utilize a single 26W quad, 32W, 42W or 57W triple tube lamp.

The 9" square downlights provide the highest lumen packages with two 26W quad, 32W or 42W triple tube lamps. These products were designed to take advantage of the new higher wattage triple tube lamps from General Electric and Osram/Sylvania to achieve greater light levels. The new 57W lamps provide 4300 lumens, a 34% increase in light output compared to a 42W triple tube. A horizontal lamp position is ideal for the longer 57W lamps. A rectangular downlight offers a shallow fixture with a smaller aperture than a comparable round downlight while maintaining efficiency and glare control. All fixtures feature universal electronic ballasts that accommodate 120 or 277 volt operation and feature end-of-lamp-life protection. The ballast will shut down when the lamp burns out, to prevent overheating and extend the life of the product.

Precision optics deliver high efficiency and a wide, symmetrical distribution. The standard open reflector trims provide excellent glare control with 55° visual and reflected cutoff. Lensed trims are UL listed for installation in wet locations and incorporate a deeply regressed prismatic lens to soften the lamp image. Lensed wall washers provide smooth, even vertical illumination with wide spacing. All reflector trims are available in Specular Clear, Comfort ClearÔ, Comfort Clear DiffuseÔ and White finishes to match other Calculite compact fluorescent downlights.

These new Calculite Square and Rectangular downlight products provide higher output from a smaller aperture while achieving a fresh, architecturally sensitive appearance.
